The MAGA Chronicles
A work of satirical concept art: a chronicle of American public life
under Donald Trump, from 2016 to the present, told in the visual
language of the Bayeux Tapestry.
The work borrows the form of a medieval chronicle — a single
continuous frieze, Latin tituli in Roman capitals, worked
upper and lower borders — and turns it on a stylised, satirical
depiction of Donald J. Trump. It opens on the escalator descent of
June 2016. Its titulus, written throughout in the voice of the
propaganda the work mocks, reads:
ENTER DONALD JOHN TRUMP. HE WILL DRAIN THE SWAMP.
THE ONCE AND FUTURE KING OF AMERICA.
Conceived in three parts, the chronicle runs from 2016 toward the
present day. The first part covers the years 2016 to 2020; the parts
that follow carry the account forward.
Artist Statement
The MAGA Chronicles aims to depict the MAGA movement in 3
acts. The goal of the project is to chronicle modern political
history in an approachable way.
Act 1, “The Once and Future King of America” will depict the
first Trump administration with over 150 ft of art.
Act 2, “The Deep State Strikes Back” will chronicle the Biden
years from 2021-2024.
Act 3, “The Return of a King” will chronicle the second Trump
administration.
There is a broader goal of embroidering the entire project.
